Naurzum and Zharsor-Urkash Lake Systems Designated Ramsar Sites

On 3 September 2009 the Ramsar Secretariat announced the inclusion of the Naurzum and Zharsor-Urkash Lake Systems into the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance. The designation, which is effective as of 12 July 2009, brings all four SCWP sites in Kazakhstan into the Ramsar Convention (read more about the designations of the Koibagar-Tyuntyugur and Kulykol-Taldykol Lake Systems in May 2009). The preparation of nomination documents, including detailed Ramsar Information Sheets and GIS maps, for the four sites was initiated in 2005 with the support of the SCWP.
